Private Harris arrived on Gallipoli on 14th June 1915 and his battalion was in action throughout the summer. The battalion diary for 12th August 1915 records that the men were moved up to front line positions known as Eski line and ‘Y’ ravine. During the night the Turks were very active again and fired continually. Much of the day was spent repairing damaged trenches with attacks from either side, other than artillery fire there was no offensive action. Private J.H. (Bert) Harris, a well known local Rugby player, was his battalion’s only casualty that day.
